Who is Mary Ward?

Believing deeply in the importance of education for girls, Mary Ward envisioned a community of religious women who were not confined to a cloister, but rather engaged with the needs of their era.

Mary Ward was born in 1585 into a Catholic family in Yorkshire, during the English Reformation, a period marked by the persecution of Catholics, who were prohibited from practicing their faith publicly. She is the founder of who we now know as the Loreto sisters.
